Baidu Research brings together top researchers, scientists and engineers from around the world to work on fundamental AI research. Research areas include image recognition, speech recognition, natural language processing, robotics, and big data.
Baidu Research is composed of three interrelated teams:
- Big Data Lab (BDL)
BDL is led by Dr. Tong Zhang. BDL focuses on large-scale machine learning algorithms and applications in areas such as predictive analytics, large data structure algorithms, and intelligent systems research. BDL’s mission is to make people's lives better through big data.
- Institute of Deep Learning (IDL)
Baidu launched the Institute of Deep Learning in 2013. The team’s focus areas include image recognition, machine learning, robotics, human-computer interaction, 3D vision and heterogeneous computing.
- Silicon Valley AI Lab (SVAIL)
The mission of the Silicon Valley AI Lab is to develop AI technologies that we believe will have a significant impact on the lives of at least 100 million people. Our research is built on the powerful combination of deep learning, large datasets and high performance computing. In fact, SVAIL has both deep learning and systems research teams that work hand in hand to explore the latest in deep learning algorithms as well as find innovative ways to accelerate AI research with new hardware and software technologies.
